Indianapolis is situated in the central part of Indiana, making it the capital of the state and the twelfth largest city in the United States. The area was not populated until 15 years later, and the northern and central parts of Indiana were mainly inhabited by indigenous communities. The state of Indiana, where Indianapolis is located, is situated in the east-central region of the Midwest of the United States, right in the center of Indiana. Indiana is also home to some renowned competitive events, such as the Indianapolis 500, which takes place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
